Message from the Burros President

Hello Burros Families,

 

I hope you all had an enjoyable Holiday Season

 

The Board of Directors is working hard to plan the 2016 Tackle Football, Cheer and Flag Football Season. As always, our goal is to make this Season the best it can be.


We recently filled the vacant Secretary position on the Board. Dan Canniff has left his position as VP to take on the very difficult Secretary job. Jim Andresen was voted in as our new Vice President.  Congratulations and thank you to both of these guys!

 

We are presently taking applications for Coaches in all three programs, tackle, cheer and flag. If you believe you have something to offer and want to be part of a great program, we look forward to your coach’s application.  All interested persons must fill out an application and submit by February 14th. The applications are on the Burros website under the documents page. Our Coaches make a huge difference in our kids’ lives and nothing could be more rewarding.


2016 Registration opens February 14th, so mark your calendars. Registration is again online and found on our website at mokenaburros.com. Early registration runs February 14th thru March 12th. Register early and save up to $20 per participant. Open registration is March 13th thru April 9th. Late Registration ends May 31st. We will no longer be taking any Cheer Registrants after May 31st as we must finalize rosters for the Competition Season. Late registration will cost you up to $20 per participant additional.


Registration fees have stayed consistent with last year. Our fundraiser fee this Season is $100 per family. We are working on a new fundraiser. This season, you will receive ten $10 raffle tickets. Prizes, though not finalized, first place will be a prize around $2,000. We feel a new approach may make the raffle tickets easier to sell. As you will pay this fundraiser fee at registration, you KEEP all the proceeds of the ticket sales.


Again in 2016, the Burros will distribute the registration raffle tickets to each participant. THESE TICKETS ARE PART OF THE REGISTRATION FEE. You are not paying for these; we are giving you the opportunity to offset your registration costs. Tackle and Cheer each receive $100 in tickets; Flag will receive $50 in tickets. Sell the tickets and the proceeds are YOURS to keep. As an Example, tackle registration is $250. Sell your tickets and you are playing for $150. AND if you register early, you are playing for $130. The object of this raffle is to make Our Program the most affordable around.


This year, Super Light Weight Tackle (6-8 year old) registration fees are reduced to $175 per participant. We are hoping to give our younger kids the same opportunities at a lower cost to help them all get their feet wet.


Cheer and Tackle will pay a $50 per family Parent Participation Deposit. The Board cannot do it all and we need Parents help to put out the best program. This deposit is refundable after the season at equipment/uniform hand in. We are NOT looking to make money on this; we ARE looking for your help.


Our Flag Program will again have 3 levels of competition. 6-8 Year Olds (8 year olds must weigh less than 80 lbs.) is traditional flag to prepare for Tackle Football. 8-10 year old league and 11-13 year old league is a pure passing league. Flag is open to boys and girls alike.


The Refer-A-Friend program is another way to reduce your costs. If you bring a new player/cheerleader to the Burros, we will reward you with a check for $25 per participant (up to registration fees). The form is available on the website under the documents tab. Just fill it in and mail to us (PO Box 304, Mokena). Be sure to include your address. After the new participant is registered and paid in full, we will mail out a check, usually in late July early August. Have your kids bring their friends to play and save some money, it is that simple.


I am excited about the upcoming Season. Our Cheerleaders will be defending their first place wins and a State title. Our Football players will look to improve on a successful 2015. Flag is to be as much fun as ever and we are looking for a record number of participants.


The Burros understand that everyone’s financial situation is different. This year, we are offering a payment plan for all families. There is an option to pay in full at time of registration, or to space the payments over 3 months. If you take the payment plan, you will receive an email 1 week before the subsequent payment is due. It is up to you to make that payment on time. Your participant will not be considered registered and will not be placed on a roster until payment is made in full. If this option is still out of reach, please contact me, or Treasurer Bob Huscher directly to make payment arrangements that meet your situation. Rest assured that we will keep this in the utmost confidence. All must be paid in full to participate, prior to the first day of practice. The Burros want no kid left on a couch if they can be out having fun with their friends in Tackle, Cheer or Flag!

 

As I start my 3rd term as your President, I am honored to be part of the Burros!!! Our primary goal is to the kids.  Thank you for this opportunity!!
